Learn to dance Brazilian samba for CubaDupa!

If you hear the sound of the drums, and can’t sit still… this is for you!

We are running a new block of Brazilian samba dance workshops, in preparation for CubaDupa and beyond…

All are welcome – even if you’ve never danced before, we can teach you. Intermediate levels and above are also very welcome – we will tailor our workshops to your level.

Our two fabulous dance directors, Arawhetu Berdinner and Hillary Reid will be taking the workshops, with the aim (if you want to!) of getting you ready to perform with us at CubaDupa. Wellington Batucada will be performing at CubaDupa on March 28 and 29, together with all the other samba schools from around the country, and we’re looking to boost our dancer numbers to create a really spectacular show. It’s gonna be awesome!

There are six workshops in total, held every Sunday afternoon at Thistle Hall between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. You are welcome to stay on afterwards to watch the band rehearse, and to get a bit of a taste of live samba drumming up-close.

The first workshop is on Sunday 1 February 2015. Even if you missed the first one, it’s not too late – you can still come along.

The six week course will cover the basics of the exuberant samba dance and introduce the choreographies used with Wellington Batucada. The final workshops will include dancing with the live Batucada band.

Hillary and Arawhetu will be your two experienced and friendly teachers to guide you through the rhythms and movements danced and played to the live percussion. Both are excited to prepare new dancers for performance during the CubaDupa festival, so if this is something you are interested in, come and sign on for this course.

Six workshops for $60* or $12.50 per workshop.

For more information, or to register, either email wellingtonbatucada@gmail.com, fill in the form on the Join us page, or even just turn up at Thistle Hall at 12:45pm next Sunday, ready to dance!

*special price of $20 for current Batucada members.
