What a lovely day for a Love Parade
In 2016 the Pride Parade celebrated the 30th anniversary of the passing of the Homosexual Law Reform Act in New Zealand. Queer and queer-friendly groups, organisations and individuals came together and took to the streets to celebrate our community.
Wellington Batucada were pleased and honoured to be asked to lead the parade this year.
We gathered in Frank Kitts Park. Lisa E bought us all coffee to wake us up (and as a thank you for playing) – thanks heaps Lisa! Speeches were made, Grant Robertson fired the cannon (crikey!) and we led the Love Parade out of Frank Kitts, along the waterfront, past Te Papa and into Waitangi Park where the annual Out In The Park Festival was taking place.
As we turned the corner past Te Papa we looked back, to see the parade stretching all the way along the waterfront, with people still waiting to join the parade waaay back at Frank Kitts. What a great turnout!
