Drumming for a very good cause – and a ninja gig as well!
Wellington Batucada was asked to play at this year’s annual World Fair Trade Day, when the World Fair Trade Organisation and its members promote global awareness of fair trade. It’s a great cause, and we were happy to play our part.
In Wellington the event is part of Fair Trade Fortnight – an opportunity to celebrate Wellington’s Fair Trade City status, and show the huge support of Wellington businesses for Fairtrade.
Here’s Batucada agogo player Roger’s notes about the gig (he’s the one in the photo at the far end wearing his Fair Trade llama hat):
- Other performers included Los Andes band and stilt walkers
- Good coffee!
- We were directed by Dazza
- We introduced some new breaks from rehearsal
- The weather cooperated!
- Another celebration of cultural diversity in Wellington 🙂
- There was an impromptu performance later
…as Roger mentioned, after the Fair Trade gig a bunch of us whizzed on up to Cuba Street and did an impromptu ninja gig – just because we could. Heaps of fun!
