The shortest gig for the tallest people?
So – at the very last minute (because that’s what happens in competitive sports) we were invited to perform at the National Basketball League Grand Final at the TSB Stadium. Sounds impressive… actually we were asked to do a little performance on the court pre-game, to “blast up the crowd”. This was because the Wellington Saints had got through to the final and were hosting the game. Exciting!
I think we were originally going to play for 15 minutes – which is super-short for us – but in the end I think we were out on court for – oooooh – maybe five minutes, tops?
I cannot for the life of me recall what we played – but I do know it went by in a flash – one moment we were waiting at the side of the basketball court to go on, and the next moment – we were done and being ushered off again.
Short and sweet – unlike the players, I suppose. Hahahahaha.
We did a tiny little impromptu gig outside the back door of the TSB Stadium as we walked back to our green room, which probably lasted longer than our on-stage efforts. Well, we’d only just started warming up when we had to stop! And we do love a bit of ninja-gigging on the waterfront….
Thanks heaps Wellington Saints for inviting us to play at your big game – we were super-thrilled to hear that you won the whole thing! Go the Saints!
Oh – and someone wore a completely different T-shirt to the rest of us because….
