Doing the Newtown Shuffle once more
Like many festivals and events last year, Newtown was cancelled due to COVID – so it was completely brilliant to be back again in 2023.
With Tim as our director, our drummers and dancers did the Newtown Shuffle through the streets of our favourite inner-city suburb – and we (and the crowds) couldn’t have been happier.
We finished at the Constable Street stage by doing a mash-up with the very wonderful Hoot’n’Annies – a bunch of whom are also members of Wellington Batucada – it was a family affair!
What an excellent day – and the Weather Gods were amazing. About 10 minutes after we finished performing and had wandered back through the streets to our Green Room – the heavens opened and it absolutely poured down. If we’d done our usual random carry-on-playing-for-a-bit after the mashup, we’d have been soaked. But we didn’t, so we weren’t! Hooray!
