Wellington Batucada will play at the 2009 Jackson Street Fiesta on Saturday, 7 March.
Two performances: one at 5.30pm, and one at 8.30pm.
Also playing at the Fiesta, at 7.30pm: Zirigidum, with their mix of juicy Brazilian rhythms.
Continue readingWellington Batucada once again excelled in the parade, winning the Supreme prize with their fish-themed entry which included drummers in goldfish hats, samba dancers in glittering blue fish costumes and a huge illuminated deep sea creature.

Carlos Ferreira is a samba master that is being sponsored by the embassy of Brazil to travel around the Batucada groups in Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua and Wellington and lead percussion workshops with each of the groups.
All of the groups will then travel to Wellington to take part in the Cuba Street carnival’s illuminated night parade on February 21 and after the parade there will be a big Batucada clash in the streets of Wellington with around 400 drummers and samba dancers.
